WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN OPHTHALMOLOGIST, OPTOMETRIST AND OPTICIAN?

Optometrists and ophthalmologists are eye doctors who specialize in caring for your eyes. An eye doctor performs eye exams and diagnoses and treats eye problems. Optometrists and Ophthalmologists perform the same type of exam and have equal training to diagnose and manage eye conditions, but ophthalmologists have extra training to perform eye surgery if needed. Some Ophthalmologists may also specialize in one or more parts of the eye. Optometrists are the primary eye care provider for the health of your eyes and perform your annual eye physical while ophthalmologists deal with surgical eye issues. An optician helps you with corrective lenses. An optician isn’t a doctor, but they have training to help you choose eyeglass frames. They also ensure that glasses and contact lenses fit correctly.
